ABC News is reporting on Tuesday that the “Dancing with the Stars” favorite among fans in season 17 of the show, Bill Nye, has had an injury during Monday night’s program. Since the celebrity contestants were announced earlier this month, Nye, television’s famed-Science Guy, has been a huge favorite from near and far.
From the report, Nye has sought treatment for a knee injury and may even require surgery from the dance moves he made with his dance partner, Tyne Stecklein. An ABC representative officially reported that the network can confirm that Bill Nye was injured during his performance on Monday night’s program and is currently seeking medical attention. The network spokesperson promises to keep the media and public posted on Nye’s progress.
Nye was the lowest-scoring contestant following his first two performances this season on the show. However, he remains on the program having escaped elimination by seeing Keyshawn Johnson being eliminated instead.
Nye, who caused a sensation with his appearances on the show referred to his appearance as something different. Of himself, he said, “It’s the cha cha with a guy in a lab coat <which> was a great surprise.”
On the night of the injury, Nye delighted the viewers and studio audience by appearing as Ludwig van Beethoven as he danced to Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
Should Nye need surgery, he won’t be the first DWTS celebrity to meet such a fate. Previously guests on the show to need surgical repair have been Gilles Marini, Misty May-Treanor, and Cristian de la Fuente.
