Many people like to think that Barack Obama is a Christian.
Last September the President himself told a gathering in Albuquerque, NM that he was "a Christian by choice."
“My family didn’t -- frankly, they weren’t folks who went to church every week. And my mother was one of the most spiritual people I knew, but she didn’t raise me in the church,” he said in a backyard town hall meeting.
But Mediate reports that one television personality isn't buying it.
According to Mediaite, Bill Maher - not known for his conservative point of view - said he doesn't believe Obama is a Christian, but pretends to be one for political reasons, just as he believes the President pretends to be a centrist.
On the Friday edition of Real Time, Maher suggested the President was a secular humanist, like his mother.
This did not sit well with guest Cornett West, who said the President "changed his mind on the God question."
Many have questioned Barack Obama's religious views since his appearance as a national candidate for office.
For years, Obama attended the Trinity United Church of Christ, a church that teaches something known as black liberation theology.
Marie Jon writes at Renew America that the church (and Wright) were committed to a "ten point vision":
- A congregation committed to ADORATION.
- A congregation preaching SALVATION.
- A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION.
- A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.
- A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION.
- A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION.
- A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA.
- A congregation committed to LIBERATION.
- A congregation committed to RESTORATION.
- A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.
She cites a rather lengthy but important work by Dr. Robert A. Morley who concludes:
Black liberal theology is not of God but of the devil. It is nothing more than 'white liberal religion' and is used by white theologians and politicians to keep blacks down in order to use them as cannon fodder for a Marxist revolution.
The church was pastored by a man named Jeremiah Wright, who gave sermons that many found questionable. Among the quotes attributed to him, one finds the following:
“We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye.”
“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” (Sep 2001)
“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.” (2003)
“In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.” (magazine article)
“Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!…We [in the U.S.] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.” (sermon)
Given the President's childhood education in an Islamic school, his position on many issues like abortion, and the many years under the teaching of Jeremiah Wright, one would have a difficult time believing the President is a true follower of Jesus Christ.
It is no wonder that a poll done in the latter half of 2010 found that nearly one in five believe he is a Muslim.
But to hear Maher question the President's faith is a bit surprising, considering that all of the mainstream media has done everything it could to paint the man as a born-again believer.
Will Chris Matthews take Maher to task for this statement? Stand by...

Mr. Obama is on record, seen the video when he says, "his muslim faith." Now before I get attacked on here, I'm just saying what I heard Mr. Obama say do a google search for such a video and you should be able to find it.
Don't need to do a google search - just read my article on the poll that shows one in five think he's a muslim.
Great article!
Thank you!
