Earlier this week, Bill James made a controversial remark against African Americans, claiming inner city blacks lived in a 'moral sewer'. Finding supporters of James' to speak out agaisnt him in the community in which he resides and has gained a bunch of votes is near impossible. Outbursts such as this is nothing new to those who have followed his career. He used the same words against African Americans back in 2004 when describing the community in which they live and a couple of years ago, there was verbal sparing between he and commissioner Vilma Leake when he asked in a derogatory manner if her son was a homo. James regularly makes offensive remarks on purpose for media attention and that more should be said about community bridge building County commission chair Jennifer Roberts said.
'We want to work towards a common future, where we recognize the worth of every individual no matter their race their ethnic orign,' Roberts said.
No one could be found in Matthews who admitted voting for him. In James' re-election last year, he received more than 32,000 votes.
James reputation does preceed him. He definitely has a track record, yet no one is wanting to admit they voted for him. Could this be a case of allowing James' to be the scapegoat for what the people in Matthews really think and feel? If James is not a direct reflection of the morale in Matthews, then the politics are tainted. If a culture and society are to move forward in a positive way, the need a positive leader to move them that way. The leaders will always come from the people they represent and the people will only elect those people that most reflect them.
