The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation awarded Brown University nearly $3 million to help their program that focuses on keeping more students on track for high school graduation and college or career readiness.
The award, announced on August 23, was given to The Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University, an organization that works to provide high-quality education for children in urban communities.
According to a Brown University press release, the funds will be used to support development of “College Readiness Indicator Systems” (CRIS) that schools can use to identify students in danger of dropping out or graduating from high school unprepared for a postsecondary job or education.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, based in Seattle, is the largest transparently operated private foundation in the world, founded by Bill and Melinda Gates. The primary aims of the foundation are, globally, to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty, and in America, to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology.
