Bill Cowher rumors: Is Rex Ryan safe or will the Jets pursue ex-Steelers coach?

The Bill Cowher rumors aren't going away. In fact, no matter how much the former Steelers coach insists he isn't interested in heading back to the sidelines, the rumor mill continues to churn.

Could Cowher be headed to the Jets as the new GM or possibly as the head coach?

Owner Woody Johnson has said he is sticking with Ryan as the Jets leader, but after Johnson fired General Manager Mike Tannenbaum, rumors speculate that offensive coordinator Tony Sparano may be next on the chopping block.

Could Johnson have a bombshell up his sleeve and be ready to blow out the whole Jets staff?

According to IBT, on Wednesday, Jan. 2, Mike Francesa stated on WFAN that there would be “rumblings” about Bill Cowher joining the organization, within the coming days.

If the Jets, or any team in need of a coach or a coaching change can scoop up Bill Cowher, you know that move will be made.

Ryan is reportedly already on vacation in the Bahamas according to ESPN. A source has described Ryan as "anxious", adding "everyone is in limbo," referencing about the Jets staff.

Landing Bill Cowher would be huge for the Jets, not just for the team, but as an organization.

New York is always know for doing things big, so it shouldn't surprise fans that if there is any shot at landing Cowher as a GM or head coach, they will do it.
