Bil Cowher rumors, just like Jon Gruden rumors seem to be as regular as the holiday season itself over the past three seasons – and once again they are surfacing.
Even though Cowher hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2006, his name still comes up as a hot topic when teams are in need of a coach and right now is no exception.
According to a NESN report on Dec. 31, Bill Cowher, Ken Whisenhunt, and Jay Gruden are among potential replacements for Mike Shanahan in Washington.
In addition to Cowher, Whisenhunt and Gruden, Boyer lists Redskins defensive backs coach Raheem Morris, Baylor head coach Art Briles, former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith and current San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, among others possible candidates, to replace Shanahan.
That sure is a long list, but Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is never afraid to spend big bucks on a proven coach.
In other coaching rumor news, the Detroit Lions are expected to interview former Bears coach Lovie Smith.
According to a Freep.com report on Dec. 31, Smith, along with former Colts coach Jim Caldwell, are on the Lions list for a new head man and they are expected to be interviewed for the job.
The Lions also reportedly have interest in Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Tom Cable and interest in San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt.
Jim Schwartz was fired after 5 years in Detroit back on Monday.
