Bill Cosby to help Robert Bobb promote desperate Detroit schools

Bill Cosby is joining the "I'm In Campaign," which aims to turn around the ailing Detroit Public Schools, according to the Associated Press.

Cosby, who speaks bluntly about black people and education, will go door-to-door with Robert Bobb Tuesday afternoon to help convince parents to return their children to the Detroit schools.

Bobb is the emergency financial manager who was appointed by the state to wipe out fraud and waste, and improve education in the school system.

Following the Cosby/Bobb door-to-door campaign, there will be a rally at Henry Ford High School.  See the schedule below.

Bobb has shaken up the Detroit Public School system in many ways. He has a big job, considering that currently only 26.8% of students in Detroit graduate from high school.

As Detroit students have left the troubled school system each year for other options, enrollment at the district has dropped to below 100,000. Bobb has budgeted for 83,777 students this fall.

Since Bobb has taken over the schools, he has announced that 29 Detroit schools will close, and 40 failing schools will restructure.

Those two make a powerful and interesting duo. Huge job. We'll see.

Big deal. I will NEVER send my kids back to that hell hole just because some comedian visits me.

  • Sure 2 years ago

Yeah he'll pass out jello pops and the students will all go running back to those crappy schools.

Well poor management is the reason why kids dont go. A teacher once told me the principle at one of the schools was swearing at students over the PA to motivate kids to return to class. Since Detroit is so knee deep in embazzlement in all forms of government giving anything to the schools is pointless it will probubly just goto someones new car or house.
