This election year, Bill Clinton has become the Democrats' Mr. Fix It. Need to get a contender out of the Pennsylvania Democratic primary and clear the field for an incumbent? Send in Bill (although that didn’t work out so well). Have you decided that the Democratic Senate nominee in Florida has no shot and the independent candidate, albeit a former Republican, is a better option? Send in Bill.
Bill Clinton has been crisscrossing the country trying to save the Democrats from impending doom on Tuesday. In some instances, he may actually be making some headway. If Democratic losses are not as great as some predictions, Bill Clinton is going to get a lot of credit. While Barack Obama retreats to the safety of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”, Hillary Clinton circles the globe trying to bring world peace and Bill Clinton hits the swing states. America’s fascination with the Clintons clearly stands the test of time.
That got me thinking what other “fix it” missions Bill Clinton could be sent on?
How about we ask Bill Clinton to come to Los Angeles to persuade the McCourts to get out of Dodger Stadium? Bill could have a nice chat with Frank and Jamie and explain that, for the good of the community, they should sell the team. Bill Clinton remains a very popular figure in California and he might just be able to seal the deal for Dodger fans.
Then, perhaps, we can send Bill to get Joy Behar off the set of The View. In the last couple of months, all of this political talk has caused poor Joy to walk off the show and to refer to a Senate candidate as a "bitch". Perhaps Bill can explain that, for the sake of Barbara Walters’ sanity, Joy needs to leave the show. He could offer to be a guest on Joy’s own talk show (bet you didn’t even know she had one?).
Finally, Democrats may want to send Bill Clinton into the Oval Office to try and convince Barack Obama to step aside as the Democratic nominee in 2012. Certainly, given that the President sent Bill on many of these political “fix it” missions, this would be an ironic turn of events. Bill could explain that the President’s popularity has dipped so low that the Democratic Party faces likely loss of the White House in 2012 (if Obama heads the ticket) but, he could be a hero if he steps aside and saves the Democrats. He can explain that there are other strong candidates to keep the White House in the party’s hands.
I wonder if Bill might have anybody in mind?
