New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has great respect for his next opponent. As the Patriots prepare for their Saturday night showdown with the Indianapolis Colts, Belichick has given praise to the Colts young star quarterback Andrew Luck. As NBC Connecticut reports on Jan. 8, Belichick has nothing but admiration for Luck.

Of course, Belichick praised all of his opponents as he never downplays the importance of any game or takes any team he is preparing for granted.

The Patriots enter the playoffs as a very banged up team, but also a prepared team and a team that has already overcome many obstacles in the 2013 season to go 12-4. But perhaps no team is hotter entering the playoffs than the Colts lead by Luck. Belichick said:

“A really complete player. Great long-ball thrower, very accurate. Reads defenses well, does a good job checking plays as the line of scrimmage and making some of those adjustments. Hard guy to bring down, good feet. Can scramble and run. Can scramble and buy time to throw. Has good vision down the field. There’s not really any weaknesses to his game.”

As the Patriots and Colts renew their rivalry, it won’t by Peyton Manning the defense will have to prepare again, but someone in Andrew Luck who won’t be easily rattled and has already shown resilience in his young career. Luck did return the praise of the Patriots defense.

“Phenomenal football team. They do a great job of disguising their defenses. Everything seems to look the same. You blink for a second and it’s completely different and you screw up.”

The AFC Divisional game is being promoted as a Tom Brady verses Andrew Luck showdown, but the real battle is Luck verses the defensive genius known as Bill Belichick.
