The soulful sounds of Grammy Award winning Bilal Oliver will fill the newly renovated halls of the Howard Theater on Saturday, May 19. Coming fresh off of his Grammy victory for his critically acclaimed single “Little Ones,” Bilal returns to DC in this historic venue. Bilal keeps DC in heavy rotation, and this show is undoubtedly one of his most anticipated. The show is being produced by Jill Newman Productions; and as Ebony Magazine recently quoted “If the flyer says ‘Jill Newman Productions,’ the event is going to be fire.” MosDef (still not completely comfortable with Yasiin Bey), The Roots, Alice Smith, and Amel Larrieux are a few of the names that have recently teamed with Jill Newman Productions at the Howard Theater.
I’ve personally seen Bilal on large and small stages across the city, but am most excited about hearing him in the larger, but still intimate setting of the Howard Theater. Bilal’s unique sound and often enigmatic persona is going to make this a night to remember. If you haven’t had the privilege to see Bilal in concert, get prepared for “audiophoria. “ (Yes, that is a made-up word, mixing audio and euphoria and yes, his show is that good)
Stay tuned for my 1:1 interview with Bilal in preparation for the Howard Theater show, along with a review of the concert. For ticket information, please visit The Howard Theater.
