June 21 is the official start of summer. It is swimsuit season. The majority of women cringe at the though of having to shop for a swimsuit. Swimwear fashions shown on the runways and in the fashion magazines are mostly bikinis. For the 50 plus woman, bikinis need not apply for closet space.
Answers to few basic questions can take the stress out of swimwear shopping.
1. What is your fashion silhouette?
2. What is your fashion personality?
3. Where will the suit be worn?
Your fashion silhouette is your body type. It is important to be honest with yourself. What is your body type – not what you would like it to be but what it is? Are you:
Triangle/A Shaped – Your shoulders and waist are narrower than your hips.
Inverted Triangle/V Shaped – Your shoulders are narrower than your waist and hips.
Rectangle/H Shaped – Your shoulders are as wide as your hips and your waist is as wide or slightly narrower.
Hourglass/ X Shaped/Figure 8 – Your shoulders are as wide as your hips and your waist is distinctly narrower.
Oval/Rounded/ O Shaped – Your shoulders are narrower or as wide as your hips and your middle section is wider.
What is your fashion personality? Are you:
Classic – traditional/tailored
Natural – sporty/casual
Where will the suit be worn and what activities will you be engaged in? Will you be doing water aerobics, water skiing, or serious swimming? Will you be taking leisurely strolls on the beach or have family outings at a lake. Will you be relaxing pool side with a Margarita or Pina Colada?
Summer is a time for relaxing and having fun. The right swimsuit will be fun to wear and make you feel good.
