The County of Los Angeles is making huge strides in developing mass-transportation infrastructure. In order to get individuals “out of the car and on to the rail”, commuting to and from metro stations must be simple and secure.
Bikestation® plans, designs, and operates bike-transit centers, enabling bicycling and other alternatives to be an integral part of the transportation system. These facilities offer secure bicycle parking, shared-use bicycle rentals, access to public transportation, long operating hours, and friendly staff who can provide information to plan your commute trip. Some facilities even have access to environmentally-clean vehicle sharing, bicycle repair, restrooms, showers and lockers.
Bikestation® has already established four facilities in Southern California including Claremont, Covina, Long Beach, and Santa Barbara. In partnership with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), Bikestation® fulfilled a grant from Caltrans, through their Community Based Transportation Planning Program, to lay the groundwork for the development of a network of Bike-Transit Centers along MTA transit lines throughout the County. These multi-modal facilities will improve bicycle/transit linkages and encourage alternative commutes by providing commuters with alternative transportation options; thereby reducing vehicular emissions and congestion, improving mobility and enhancing the livability of Los Angeles County.
With accommodating facilities like the Bikestation® strategically popping up near transit stops in conjunction with worsening Los Angeles traffic patterns, getting individuals to convert to mass-transit commuting may become a seamless shift in paradigm.
