If you’re looking for a fantastic Western getaway for Labor Day weekend, we suggest you take a look, well, West, at Grand Junction. In addition to the variety of outdoor activities, quick access to national parks and monuments in Colorado and Utah, and a really nice walking-mall downtown area, there are two big events going on Labor Day weekend in Grand Junction: the Grand Junction Off-Road endurance mountain bike event and the Western Colorado Classic Car Show.
According to the Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau (GJVCB) the inaugural Grand Junction Off-Road, scheduled for Aug. 30 through Sept. 1, features the world-class Lunch Loops and neighboring trail systems. The courses start and finish on Main Street in downtown Grand Junction.
All skill levels will bike through an assortment of terrain while traversing the Tabeguache trail system to the distant reaches of the Magellan loop. Grand Junction’s Main Street is the event hub, where a three-day festival welcomes returning riders and rider watchers (spectators?).
Meanwhile, Hilltop will hold its inaugural Western Colorado Classic Auto Event on Labor Day weekend as well, Aug. 31 through Sept. 1, at Canyon View Park in Grand Junction.
The event is open to sports cars, hot rods, muscle cars, trucks, specialty vehicles, and will feature more than 500 classic autos and vintage motorcycles. There will be vendors, entertainment, drawings and 33 trophies, including Best of Show, Best of Marque, Dignitary Choice, People’s Choice, Bets of Paint and Hilltop’s Choice. The 2013 Marque is a Chevrolet Corvette.
There’s also a reception, barbeque, fun race, and road tour. All proceeds benefit Hilltop Community Resources, which helps people of all ages navigate life’s challenges.
