Mayor Warford has proclaimed the week of May 17-21 Bike to Work Week. The citywide Bike to work Day is this Friday, May 21.
The Mayor would like us to be more mindful and aware of bicyclists on the street and to join them in their commute to work or school.
"Bike to Work Week" is a national event that was started by the League of American Cyclists in 1956.
Bicycling is a simple, low impact form of exercise. Riding a bike to work produces no air or noise pollution. In a compact city such as Bismarck, most commutes are not only viable, but easy to do via bicycle.
Additional Information regarding Bike to Work Week can be found here.
In conjunction with Bike to Work Week the annual Bike Rodeo will be held Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Burleigh County Extension Office, 3715 East Bismarck Expressway, Bismarck.
In order to participate, children must provide their own bicycle, wear a bicycle helmet and be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. A limited number of free bike helmets will be provided by the Bismarck-Mandan Safety council.
Included in the day will be bike safety education, helmet fitting, bike inspection, obstacle courses, door prizes and food available for purchase.
The event is sponsored by the partners of the Bismarck-Mandan Safety council.
