May is National Bike Month, and what better way to celebrate it than to get on your bike and put your car keys away.

Luckily, here in Columbus we have what's become a model for other communities around the country with the Bike to Work Challenge!

This year there's going to be an even bigger challenge available for all the great bike riders of the capital city, as the Challenge will encompass the entire month of May! As in the past, the competition will be split up by the size of the organizations participating, with the following categories:

  • Flyweight Bracket: 1–19 employees
  • Bantamweight Bracket: 20–99 employees
  • Featherweight Bracket: 100–499 employees
  • Lightweight Bracket: 500–999 employees
  • Cruiserweight Bracket: 1,000–4,999 employees
  • Heavyweight Bracket: 5,000+ employees

Every participant will be responsible for entering their trips into the easy-to-use system at the Bike to Work Challenge website (and will need to create a login if they did not have one last year). Then, after the trip entry is closed as of May 31, 11:59 PM, the tallies will be taken and the winners will be announced. Ongoing statistics such as mode share recording, standings in the competition, and more will be kept for everyone to view as well.

And that's not all. The great folks at Yay Bikes! have created a bevy of great events for Bike Month and Bike to Work Week, including lectures, fun rides, and workshops to celebrate transportation and recreational cycling in Columbus.

Keep coming back to see what the Bike To Work Challenge site has in store - more stuff gets added all the time and this year's competition is going to be fierce!
