As an exceptionally brutal winter comes to an end, work is underway to add bicycle lanes to one of Alexandria's most important thoroughfares.
These lanes will follow the stretch of King Street that leads from T.C. Williams High School southeast to the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, Alexandria Union Station, and the King Street-Old Town Metro station.
There had been some objections to the new bike lanes from neighborhood residents concerned about the loss of on-street parking spaces. However, it is generally agreed that bike lanes will make King Street safer for all who travel it, by car, bike, or on foot.
