Ride of Silence
Wednesday, May 21, 2014 is the date this year as cyclists around the world will participate in a silent slow-paced ride in honor of those who have been killed or injured while riding a bicycle on public roadways. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and cyclists may choose from either of two locations. The choices are at the Free Stamp sculpture located at Lakeside and E. 9th St. in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio or at John Carroll University (at the expansion lot just east of the Dolan Science Center). Departure time is at 6:00 p.m. with both rides ending up at University Hospital in University Circle at 6:45 p.m. for a brief ceremony. Riders are asked to wear white shirts. For more information you can get all the details on Facebook.
Treadway Creek Trail reopened
The Treadway Creek Trail in Old Brooklyn was the connecting bike path that connected Harmody Park to the Towpath Trail. After a three year closure the trail is reopening on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. Join fellow riders and friends of the trail as well as the Old Brooklyn community for a ride or walk complete with Honey Hut Ice Cream.
Kidical Mass this Sunday
The Near West Family Network wants you to join them for the first Kidical Mass of 2014. Gather at Fairview Park between West 38th and Franklin at 10:00 a.m. for a brief safety demonstration followed by a leisurely three mile ride around the historic neighborhood. The ride will finish at the Ohio City Farm on Bridge Avenue. After the ride feel free to park your bike outside Nano Brew for brunch and/or a stop two doors down at Mitchell’s Ice Cream. Bike helmets will be required with this being a law abiding ride and waivers will need to be signed. For more information go to NearWestFamilyNetwork.org. In case of heavy rain the event will be rescheduled.
