Daytona Bike Week, March 9-18, 2012, is the unofficial start of the riding season for motorcyclists from across the nation. Not only do bikers from the far reaches the United States head south in early March, many international visitors will fly or roll into Daytona Beach as well.
Builders of extreme and custom motorcycles also head to Florida to showcase their talents. Below are a few of the bike shows, bike builders, and bike build off events scheduled for Bike Week.
The WyoChopper, built by Orange County Choppers and WyoTech Daytona graduates, will be on display at Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach for the duration of Bike Week. In addition WyoTech will hold its annual Horsepower Shootout March 14-16 with trophies, prizes, and bragging rights as the motorcycle with the most horsepower.
American Iron Magazine invites the public to showcase their own rides at Destination Daytona’s Broken Spoke Saloon in Ormond Beach daily during Bike Week. Editors and photographers from American Iron will be on site at 1:00 p.m. each day for the American Iron Motorcycle Bagger Bike Show.
Daytona Cycle World International will showcase custom bikes Wednesday, March 14 through Saturday, March 17 at the Ocean Center Exhibit Hall and west parking lot on Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach.
The Rats Hole Custom Bike Show is back for the 40th year. Located at the Daytona Lagoon Waterpark, the show will feature builders from around the world competing for “World Bike Showdown Champion.” The bike show will take place on Saturday, March 17 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Fastlane’s schedule of events includes the Shovelhead Bike Show on Saturday, March 10; Rat Bike Show on Sunday, March 11; Side Car and Trike Show on Wednesday, March 14; Old School Chopper Show on Thursday, March 15; British/European Bike Show on Friday, March 16; and Antique Bike Show on Saturday, March 17. All shows take place in Deland at the Volusia County Fairgrounds with registration beginning at noon and judging at 3:00 p.m.
The Harley-Davidson Ride-In Custom Bike Show will take place on Wednesday, March 14 on Beach Street in Daytona Beach. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and judging will take place at 4:00 p.m. American Iron Magazine is co-sponsoring and will take pictures for the magazine.
Full Throttle Magazine will sponsor the 22nd Annual Boardwalk Classic Ride-In Show on Friday, March 16 on Main Street in Daytona Beach beginning at noon with cash prizes and trophies. This show is open to all makes of motorcycles.
Of course there are always thousands of motorcycles everywhere and at every venue in Volusia County during Bike Week along with vendors, entertainment, and more.
