Rebecca and Amanda face off.
Week 7 of The Biggest Loser was a real tearjerker. Abby, who had the tragic fate of losing her family in a car crash, offered herself up for elimination and left the ranch this week. Tonight's show was dedicated to her family.
This week was face-off week on the ranch. Blue team and black team members squared off and tempers flared.
“Difficult? Kiss my ass!” That’s Liz talking about the decision to eliminate Dina last week. She’s not one to mince words, that’s for sure.
Ali reminded Rudy that if he loses 13 pounds he’ll break the record set by last season’s contestant Dane of losing 100 pounds the quickest.
Pop challenge: The winning team gets to choose who faces off against each other. The challenge is a sort of jumping limbo contest. Allen has got some serious knee braces on for this challenge. (I can see this guy going all the way.) It was neck and neck but blue team won.
Rebecca chose Amanda and the former pink team members did some face-to-face smack talking.
Quote of the week, from Abby who is paired with Crazy Eyes Tracey: “Tracey is, well, um, she’s crazy. Tracey’s crazy so you just never know what’s gonna happen!” The other faceoffs:
- Allen vs. Danny
- Rudy vs. Shay
- Liz vs. Daniel
Bob threw his team in the pool, but it was no day at the beach. The black team was soaking wet, too, but it was in a pool of their own sweat at the gym with Jillian. Amanda had one of those one-one-one primal scream sessions with Jillian. Did you notice how Danny snuck out when the yelling started? Smart man. “Why are these contestants so freakin’ difficult this season?” said an exasperated Jillian after Amanda stormed out of the gym.
The challenge: The contestants hit the baseball field in those unfortunate baseball pants, which look much better on cute baseball players. Like maybe Derek Jeter! The Yankees all-star shortstop (who wasn’t even there in person!) appeared to the team in a taped video on the big screen. They had to pick up 2,535 balls -- the number of career hits that Jeter had at the end of last season. They then chuck the balls at life-size cutouts of the contestants. The first target to get 316 baseballs smacked at it (Jeter’s career batting average) wins a 2-pound advantage at the weigh-in and a meal cooked for them by celebrity chef Curtis Stone. And the black team finally won! Enjoy the turkey burgers, guys, and the 2-pound advantage.
Had a little wistful foreshadowing when Jillian talked to Abby in the gym. We then got a flashback to Abby’s truly heartbreaking story of the day her husband and children were killed by a speeding driver. For once, Jillian was at a loss for words. “I’m strong and I’m gonna live and not just gonna exist anymore,” said Abby.
Last chance workout: Remember last week when Dina couldn’t get herself to jump up on the little step? Allen was making some crazy leaps on steps that got to half his height. Jillian worked her magical brute-force psychotherapy on Shay, getting her to open up about her brutal childhood.
Weigh-in and elimination: (OK, first off, cute dress, Ali!) The faceoffs continued on the scale. The person with the highest percentage wins a point for their team and the team with the most points wins sending the other team to the elimination room. Amanda got the 2-pound advantage but Rebecca dumped 9 pounds to beat her. Tracey entered Onederland this week, getting to 197 pounds. The black team found out early on that they lost the weigh-in. It was then Rudy’s turn to weigh in. If he loses 13 pounds he’ll beat the record of Dane from season 7, who just happened to be in the weigh-in room. And Rudy aced it by one pound.
Let that sink in: 101 pounds in SEVEN weeks – crazy! Danny had immunity and Liz was happy … and evil as she gloated over the black team losing a member. Abby told her teammates that it would be OK if they sent her home. “I have gotten the kickstart of a lifetime,” she tearfully said. “But I am gonna be fine.” Shay really didn’t want Abby to leave but she respected her wishes and voted for Abby. The rest of her teammates did as well – except for Danny, who voted for Daniel.
“My husband and I spent a lot of time dreaming big dreams, and I thought those dreams had died. But I’m starting to have new dreams again,” Abby said. “I’m having new dreams again.”
The song played during Abby’s homecoming is Shine by Rosi Golan.
The update: Abby is now down a total of 80 pounds and has become a motivational speaker, hoping that others will look from her story and find their own second chance in life.
Next week: The contestants head to Washington, DC, where they visit the White House kitchen and make a salad from the White House veggie garden. They also take part in the largest workout in Biggest Loser history.

How much did I cry with this episode? A-freakin-LOT! Abby's story is so heart wrenching, and she is such a strong and amazing woman. I would only hope to be half as strong as she is should, God forbid, I were ever to find myself in the same type of situation. She looks absolutely fantastic! I LOL'd when Shay told her in the elimination room "You better win"!
