Although she's typically described as America's toughest trainer, "The Biggest Loser" star Jillian Michaels actually believes in a much more soothing approach to getting and staying lean, according to People magazine. Her holistic approach empowers your mind, body and spirit for results that you'll love.
Author of "Slim for Life: My Insider Secrets to Simple, Fast, and Lasting Weight Loss," Jillian says that you need to focus first on motivating yourself.
"Start with identifying the reasons that you want to be fit and how your life will improve. This is the lasting motivation that will drive you toward the finish line of any goal," she explains.
And although you might be able to hire a personal trainer or enlist a friend to work out with you, permanent fitness success is an internal process. "A workout buddy or trainer is a great tool in any fitness regimen, but ultimately lasting motivation comes from within," adds this celebrity trainer, whose best-selling fitness DVDs range from intense cardio and strength-training such as "Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30" to holistic options such as "Jillian Michaels Yoga Inferno."
Do you try to diet only to give into temptation?
"Again, it comes down to goals. Being healthy improves every facet of your life from your sex life to your family life. Put things in perspective and remind yourself: Nothing tastes as good as thin feels," says Jillian.
Emphasizing the holistic aspect to fitness, Jillian believes that there is a link between fitness and self-confidence.
“A person who is fit and strong physically tends to be stronger in every facet of their lives—fitness improves body image, supplies a sense of accomplishment and gives people a better resilience to tolerate the failures and setbacks,” she explains.
And for those who view her as tough, she has this to say: "I don’t know that I am ‘the toughest trainer.’ I’m a trainer that simply cares about people getting results. Sometimes it requires tough and sometimes it requires love. I do whatever it takes!”
