"The Biggest Loser" trainer Bob Harper recently dished about what it takes for weight loss success. If you're trying to win the battle of the bulge, his insights about fighting fat just might help you make the scale move in the right direction:
- Think you can eat what you want as long as you exercise enough? Wrong, says Bob. "It is all about your diet," Bob told Reuters recently. "I used to think a long time ago that you can beat everything you eat out of you and it's just absolutely not the case." For that reason, he devotes most of his newest weight loss book to the diet part of the equation: "Jumpstart to Skinny: The Simple 3-Week Plan for Supercharged Weight Loss" (click to order).
- Do you feel that tofu is better than steak? Bob says it's not right for everyone. And although many people think that Bob is a vegan (in fact, he was even named one of PETA's sexiest celebrity vegetarians), that was then and this is now. Bob is no longer a vegan and doesn't advocate a plant-based lifestyle as the only path to weight loss, telling Reuters: "I still believe that a plant-based diet has tremendous health benefits but I have incorporated more animal protein into my diet." Worth noting: Bob also authored "The Skinny Rules: The Simple, Nonnegotiable Principles for Getting to Thin" (click to order). In that book, his recipes include sections on poultry and red meat. Bob says: "I have tried to insert vegan and vegetarian ingredient options, but in some cases animal fats or proteins are so important that I’d be misleading you if I suggested you could get by without them."
About fitness: Bob does believe that exercise is key to weight loss. His particular passion: Crossfit, which involves whole body challenges. "To me Crossfit just completely makes sense (as long as) you work at your level doing the things you can do with proper coaching," he explained. In addition to his books, Bob has a series of fitness DVDs to help you benefit from his expertise, such as "Bob Harper: Total Body Transformation" (click to order).
