“Biggest Loser” star Bobby Saleem revealed this season that he was struggling with telling his parents that he was gay. He was struggling because he was afraid to tell his father that he was gay, since he felt that his father had high expectations of him – some expectations that he was afraid he couldn’t fulfill. According to a new PEOPLE magazine report published on Dec. 16, “Biggest Loser” star Bobby Saleem is now revealing that his trainer helped him come out to his loved ones.
On the show, Bob Harper spoke for the first time about his sexuality. He was touched by Bobby’s struggles and decided to help him out. "I came from a background where for years I felt very ashamed about my sexuality," Saleem has revealed this past week. "I never really had a role model to look up to in my life." Since being on the show, he has dealt with his weight and he has now lost 135 pounds and been honest about his sexual orientation.
"Bob was the perfect role model for me. He made me realize that gay is not wrong. Gay doesn't mean weak. It empowers me," said Saleem. "Moving forward, [he] gave me a sense of confidence that I can be a strong individual and not be ashamed of who I truly am as a person."
And even though the cameras won’t capture Bobby telling his parents that he is gay, it sounds like being honest was the best thing he could have done. And his parents accepted his orientation. "Everything has been great. I came out to my father, and it was probably the most liberating thing I've done in my entire life," Saleem said. "He and my family [have] been very supportive. I feel completely blessed."
