Tonight's "Biggest Loser" sent Jackson and Jeff on an excellent adventure -- leave the ranch for a week to see how they do on their own. Everyone else had some fearsome challenges on and off the ranch, and despite an amazing weigh-in for all, someone had to go home.
After Francelina left the ranch, Alison told the remaining contestants that one of them would be leaving the ranch for a week. No trainers, no gym, no pre-planned meals. Who would it be? They’d have to compete and see. They’d be stacking blocks up in front of big pictures of who they wanted to protect. Someone felt a bull’s eye on their back.
Quote of the week, from Gina: “I instantly knew it was me. I’m the biggest loser, and I've also been a raving bitch all week. It makes sense to get me outta here.”
But then something weird happened. Jackson actually told people not to protect him – he wanted to be at a disadvantage. It was close – Gina nearly was sent off – but Jackson got his wish. Then Alison told Jackson that he had to choose someone to leave the ranch with him, and Jeff volunteered. And bonus – Joe earned a 1-pound advantage by stacking the most bricks.
Jackson and Jeff were shuttled off to a single-family home in Los Angeles. The cupboards were bare, as was the fridge. But there was a pool and some workout equipment, including a couple of bikes.
Time to check in with the teens: Since it was “Face Your Fears” week, the trainers talked with their charges. Dolvett found out that Lindsay’s biggest fear was developing diabetes. Lindsay met with a diabetic guidance counselor at her school who showed Lindsay what she has to go through every day – blood testing, insulin injections and dietary restrictions. Sunny feared losing her mom to obesity, so she had a heart-to-heart talk with her mom. At first her mom was angry, but her mom came around and said that she and Sunny would fight the battle together. And Biingo? He fears vegetables. With the help of some recipes from Bob, his mom snuck vegetables into some dishes, including meatloaf. But dang, that kid is a picky eater!
At the J&J House, Jackson and Jeff went grocery shopping and faced down the fearsome chip aisle.
The challenge: More “Fear Factor” shenanigans. They’d all be dangling off the side of a building, holding onto 40 percent of their body weight. Last person standing wins immunity. Jackson and Jeff returned from the J&J house to compete. The dudes dropped first, leaving Danni and Gina hanging on for dear life. After nearly 30 minutes, Danni couldn't hold on, leaving Gina screaming (and screaming) with joy.
Fear factor: Everyone expressed their biggest fears and the trainers threw them right into their pit of fear. Gina fears dying? Throw her in a casket. Joe’s afraid of sharks? Throw him in the ocean. Danni won’t sing in public? Throw her in a nightclub (and sing the “Star-Spangled Banner”? Yeah, sure.)
Last-chance workout: Jackson and Jeff devised their own “roll the trash can down the street” workout. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, it was the usual yelling, kettlebell swinging and medicine ball flinging. (And for purely selfish reasons, I found a cool, new use for my fitness trampoline – flinging a medicine ball into it and catching it on the rebound.)
Weigh-in: Joe has a 1-pound advantage and Gina has immunity. So how’d they all do?
- Gina: 7
- Jackson: 11
- Jeff: 13 (He’s under 300 pounds for the first time since he was 16.)
- Joe: 12 (He’s the first to lose 100 pounds on the ranch – 103 pounds to be exact.)
- Alex: 8
- Danni: 10
Elimination: Everyone had spectacular numbers, but two people had to go below the yellow line and they were Jackson and Alex. The first two votes went against her, and since she had the lowest percentage of weight lost, it was her turn to go home.
The update: Alex is down a total of 70 pounds and radiates confidence and joy.
Next week: Drum roll please … MAKEOVER WEEK! And guess who’s back? Ken Paves and Tim Gunn. Then in a nice twist, the contestants will all go home for their makeover reveals.
