While many people thought ex-football player Joe Ostaszewski had the best chance to win the $100,000 at-home prize on Monday's night's season 14 finale of "The Biggest Loser," it was diminutive dynamo Gina McDonald who nabbed the award.
Week after week on "The Biggest Loser," McDonald had the largest percentage of weight lost on the ranch. She lost 84 pounds while on the ranch and ultimately lost 113 pounds or 46.12 percent of her former self.
The 47-year-old Birmingham, Ala., wife, mom and lawyer had her share of blow-ups on the ranch, most of the time with trainer Bob Harper. Those were replayed at the finale Monday night.
"I'm a pretty feisty chick, pretty aggressive," she told reporters in a conference call last week. "It was hard to watch me [on television]. I cried."
But finally, possibly too late for viewers, her softer side was revealed last week as she was eliminated from the ranch. She made a graceful, appreciative exit and continued her stellar weight loss at home.
Perhaps better than her outward appearance was the fact that she reversed all her type 2 diabetes symptoms. We talked with Dr. Robert Huizenga about that last week.
“Gina came in with medication, with a tremendously high fasting blood sugar and was just all over the charts,” Huizenga said. “To have all of them come to absolutely normal today – that would typically, in literature, be called a complete remission.”
“I ended up exactly where it was meant for me to end,” she said in the conference call. “I don’t feel disappointed in myself at all. I’m more proud of the way I ended than I probably would have been if I had ended up a finalist.”
Let's take a look at Gina's "Biggest Loser" transformation in photos.
