Cincinnatians are bracing for what is shaping up to be the biggest party night of the year. The hottest Bands and DJs from across the region are descending upon the Queen City to bring world class entertainment for this Thanksgiving eve's celebration. No matter where you are in the city this Wednsesday, you're only a short car ride away from where the party's at, no matter what your musical tastes are!
The Play by Play Cafe in Silverton is hosting a funk lover's treat featuring Cincinnati Entertainment Award winner Freekbass. Recently out of the studio recording a new album Junkyard Walz, Freekbass has been receiving heavy media attention due to a unique sound and stage performance. Growing up glued to the television set, lead singer/bassist Freekbass embraces the underlying themes of cartoon superheroes and comic books of his childhood. This translates into the present day stage show he produces, while slapping out funk rhythms that are reminiscient of a-Les-Claypool-meets-Flea-escort-through-a-Beatles-trip with his band.
The Mad Frog in Clifton has long been established as the live music venue of choice for the many patrons that enter the doors at 1 East McMillan. This Thanksgiving eve will be no exception as The Werks have their Official Eoto Afterpaty all night long on the main stage. With live improvs which incorporate organ, synthesizer, and funk bass in the context of classic rock and electronic dance music tracks, their jams are what fans call PsyTrance Funk. Add a full tour schedule that has them playing all over the Midwest several times a week and it's no wonder why The Werks' fan base is so loyal to this four man powerhouse. To top it off, the laser-lit, all wooden dance floor at the Mad Frog will ensure all dancers can get their full Werk Out before Thanksgiving!
Adonis The Nightclub on Kellogg Ave will also have patrons dancing into the wee hours with Gobble 16: an electronic music event featuring DJ/Producer Derrick Carter of Chicago with a slew of regional and local DJs covering all genres. Derrick Carter is a household name in the underground dance music scene. Hailing from Chicago, his tracks have been a staple of the OM music catalog, owing mostly to the jazz and disco funk sounds he helped to establish at home and across Europe. Combined with opening acts by Troll & Mowgli, Royal Sound System, Trip Turlington, Rob Jones, Vennatics, Rick Always and many more, this will be a feast for the dance fanatic. With added performances by the Go Go Dancers From Hell, eye candy will be in full effect to compliment the bass grooves and dubachery occurring at Adonis this Thanksgiving eve.
Rhinos East has the hard rock crowd covered with bands Livid and Calloused. Livid are no strangers to the Cincinnati music scene. With regular airplay on WEBN 102.7 FM, and special guest appearances on WKFS 107.1 KISS FM, and pure rock 96 FM, Livid makes music that is relevant to the local and national fans they cater to. Their latest album Aoaé is loaded with searing riffs and melodic undertones, while frontman Christe Ross belts out passionate lyrics which resonate right from the heart. Check out some tracks off their latest album here, or search for them on iTunes, Amazon, LastFM, Napster, Rhapsody, or Zune. Add Calloused to the bill and you have a Thanksgiving eve bash fit to dish with a full plate of meat and potatoes!
Bogart's on Short Vine has a full scale metal and hardcore show scheduled for the biggest bar night in Cincy. Headlining act Pain Link from northern Kentucky are bringing a full metal jacket of thrash and defiance. Their self titled debut album has sold thousands of copies to compliment the 400+ shows they have performed at in the last 7 years. Bowing their heads to our metal forefathers, their songs discuss their personal struggles, societal issues, and the attitude of the metal subculture. This performance will be part of their CD release party for their latest album entitled Descendants of Defiance, and includes guest performances by Banderas, Boomslang, Death Broker, and Mary Cries Red.
Early birds will be down at 1329 Main Street at 9PM for a free show by Visual Performance Theatre performers Virginia Dare and Drew Kidd. "The Red Shoes" features artistic dance, choreography, and visual effects including a table top dance and other surprises. This free show is open to the public and allows patrons to bring their own alcohol, beer, and wine. The show is not long, and makes a perfect compliment to a night out in the bars, especially in and around the Main Street Area of Over The Rhine.
