The 44th Annual GMA Doves Awards took place Tuesday October 15. The awards show was hosted by Amy Grant and Kirk Franklin and awards were handed out at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena in celebration of Gospel and Christian music’s biggest night.
Fans got a chance to view the entire pre-show and behind-the-scenes footage live on hearitfirst.com. Jamie Grace and Chris August were co-hosts of the pre-show ceremony where over 30 of the awards were received and outstanding performances by CT presented by International Crisis Aid.
Tonight’s 42 award presentations represent a wide-array of musical styles ranging from Gospel, Contemporary Christian, Rap/Hip-Hop, Urban, Country, Worship, Contemporary and Traditional Gospel, Rock, Pop, Bluegrass, Spanish Language and Inspirational categories.
TobyMac opened Tuesday night’s show with an electrifying performance that included Britt Nicole. The Washington, DC area was well represented during the night. DC natives Capital Kings performed and so did DC.'s own Trip Lee.
Major highlights of the evening included touching tributes by Michael W. Smith and the Newsboys to Billy Graham. Talented vocalists Karen Peck, Daily & Vincent, Signature Sound and the Isaacs honored the Gaither Vocal Band in a stunning collaboration of “He Touched Me.”
Songwriter and worship leader Matt Redman captured six wins included Songwriter of the Year and Song of the year for “10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord).”
Tasha Cobbs walked away with three awards including, Contemporary Gospel/Urban Song of the Year and Gospel Performance of the Year for "Break Every Chain." Tamela Mann won 2 awards, including Traditional Gospel Album of the Year for "Best Days" and brought down the house with her performance of "Take Me to the King."
Mandisa, who has been riding a high tide of success with her recent "Overcomer" received the special "uplift" award.
