Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is one of the biggest thrill rides at the Magic Kingdom. It is located in the Frontierland area of the park. It is a bumpy roller coaster. The top speed is approximately 30 miles per hour. The vocal track playing as riders board calls it "the wildest ride in the wilderness". It is an iconic Walt Disney World Ride.
Guests will board a runaway mine train for a trip through the old mine and into the fictional town of Tumbleweed. There are no huge drops as the train winds around the track. The entire journey lasts just under 3 1/2 minutes.
Since the ride is relatively tame compared to other roller coasters, it is a good first coaster for children. Guests must be at least 40 inches tall in order to ride. Rider Switch is available if needed, ask a cast member at the entrance to the ride for more information. It is also a FASTPASS attraction. The lines grow long quickly so riding early in the day is recommended if possible.
