The 2013 Big Ten tournament brackets began Thursday (March 14). In the first game of the Big Ten tournament brackets, Illinois took care of Minnesota. The game was much closer than expected, though, as they squeaked out a 51-49 win to advance. It gets much tougher for the Fighting Illini as well, because No. 1 Indiana is waiting for them in the conference quarterfinals.
Three more games take place on Thursday, including the Michigan Wolverines taking the court against Penn State. That game is expected to be very one-sided, but it was very unexpected that Michigan would slip all the way to a No. 5 seed in the tournament. The team definitely has something to prove and likely looks at this game as a way to create some big momentum for the next round. The winner advances to face Wisconsin in round two.
The top four schools from the regular season all get byes into the quarterfinals, so Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin get to relax a bit while the bottom eight teams battle it out on the first day of play. The 2013 Big Ten tournament brackets will begin for them on Friday (March 15) with four games that all have implications when it comes to the NCAA tournament seeding.
