The Big Ten continues to be a powerhouse this season in NCAA Men's Basketball. A battle of two NCAA Top 25 teams saw the No. 18 Michigan State Spartans hosting No. 11 Ohio State on Saturday Jan. 19, 2013, in an all important conference showdown.
In what was expected to be a close game, the action delivered as the Spartans fought hard to maintain a lead into the half time break. Despite being outscored in the second half the home team still kept their composure and held on for a much needed 59-56 win that pushed their conference record to 5-1 while the Buckeyes dropped to 3-2.
Ohio State's most important performer of the night was Deshaun Thomas who scored 28 points while the rest of his team managed to combine for an additional 30 on the night. Only one other player outside of Thomas scored more than five points for the Buckeyes.
On the other side of the ball, the Spartans took a complete team effort approach spreading the scoring around with Keith Appling 's 15 points leading the team while Adreian Payne added another 14 on the night.
The Spartans face a tough set of opponents to come as they next travel to Wisconsin and then Indiana, where as the Buckeye's take on Iowa and Penn State in what should be two conference victories.
