Big shake ups at The View; Joy Behar to leave show

After 16 ½ years of co-hosting, Joy Behar has announced she will be leaving tABC network's The View at the end of the season. She is the last remaining original co-host except for creator and executive producer Barbara Walters. The current panel consists of Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Sheppard, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

"It seemed like the right time," Behar told Deadline in a phone interview on March 7. "You reach a point when you say to yourself, 'Do I want to keep doing this?' There are other things on my plate -- I've been writing a play, I've been neglecting my standup."

Behar says she will miss her coworkers and colleagues, but she herself will be missed. Her left leaning politics were always a great contrast to her right wing co-host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Her wit and humor helped make the show a success nearly 17 years ago. Joy was never afraid to stand up for herself or political beliefs. One of her most famous shows was when she and Whoopi Goldberg stormed off set after a particularly heated conversation with conservative talk show host Bill O’Reily.

So who do you think will be the next co-host? Can they ever replace a liberal 70 year old red headed comedian?
