Big pet parties abound this weekend

As summer is waning and the days are turning crisper, it's time for one last big push to party with your pets. There are several pet parties going on this Saturday, September 22. First up is a big birthday party thrown by Mended Hearts Indy. They are celebrating two years of saving lives and want everyone to come out and celebrate with them. Their party will be at downtown Indianapolis in University Park from 10 AM-2 PM. Admission to the party is free although donations for the animals are always welcomed. They will have a bunch of doggy games and those are $1 each or 6 for $5. Our events include live music from Lockstep, a fashion show, doggy contests and of course, plenty of shopping.

Also on Saturday, the Brownsburg Bow Wow Bash will be celebrating their second year as well. That event is from 10 AM-3 PM at Williams Park in Brownsburg. Admission is $5 per person and dogs are free. Expect to take home a tired pup at the end of the day. They will have a temporary dog park, a one mile walk and an obstacle course for our fuzzy friends. Food and drink will be available along with other vendors. There will be rescue groups with their adopable pets and a silent auction. Get there by 11 AM and register for the doggy contests. Some categories include best kisser, best trick, best owner/pet look alike and best dressed. This fundraiser was started by an amazing girl who wanted to make a difference for homeless pets after winning grant money. Courtney Sackett came up with this idea last year and did a great job organizing the event. It looks like it has really grown this year and will be even bigger than last year.

Saturday is also the day for the annual Westie Walk. They will also have a silent auction, doggy contests, a blessing of the pets and most importantly- a walk. Registration begins at 9:30 AM and the event runs until noon. The Westies and friends are partying at the Riviera Club on 5640 N. Illinois. All breeds are welcome as long as they are dog friendly, leashed and up to date on their vaccines.

Check your local pet supply stores for other adoption events. Most of them hold adoption on either Saturday or Sunday and host pets from local rescue groups. Opt to adopt and save a life.
