"Once Upon a Time" fans can read on for a big spoiler concerning Rebecca Mader's new character, the Wicked Witch of the West. If you don't want to know a big plot point concerning Wicked, stop reading right now.
You ready? According to Dec. 20 report by E! Online, fans might actually get to see the Wicked Witch in her homeland! That's right—"Once Upon a Time" is going down the yellow brick road. Producers are reportedly in the process of figuring out everything Oz-related that they can and can't use on the show. There's a lot for them to sort through, including the books, the 1939 movie "The Wizard of Oz," the Broadway musical "Wicked," and the 2013 movie "Oz the Great and Powerful." E! says that most of what Oncers will see will come from the books, which extend far beyond "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."
It's not that surprising that "Once Upon a Time" is going to Oz since viewers need to learn the Wicked Witch's back story, and it will be interesting to see if Emma or any members of her family also visit Oz in the present—maybe Henry will be Dorothy in the "Once" take on the magical tale. It's easy to imagine a magical tornado serving as a portal between worlds on "Once," but Henry has to find one to hitch a ride in. It's also possible that Wicked will double as Mother Gothel on "Once" since Alexandra Metz is set to appear as Rapunzel in episode 14 of season 3, which is titled "The Tower." Perhaps the Wicked Witch is keeping Rapunzel locked up to make use of her magical hair. But will Rapunzel be in Oz or somewhere else?
When the show heads to Oz, it will be interesting to see which other iconic characters from the magical land will pop up. There are the munchkins, the flying monkeys, the Wicked Witch's sister, Glinda the Good Witch, the wonderful Wizard of Oz, the Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow. The Tin Man's tale would work really well on "Once Upon a Time" since he just wants a heart—many hearts have already been taken away and returned on the show.
So are you looking forward to "Once" exploring the land of Oz?
