How do you introduce hop flavor to people used to drinking light American lagers? Big Muddy Brewing Company has the answer with their Pale Ale. On the lighter end for the style Big Muddy Pale Ale does not slam the taste buds with hops like the west coast styles or have a heavy malty sweet backbone like the east coast styles making it a good transition beer for those venturing into craft beer.
The third creation of Big Muddy Brewing, Big Muddy Pale Ale enters your glass as a nice golden yellow beer with almost crystal clear clarity. The thin white head leaves a nice Belgian lace behind on the sides of your glass. The hardest part of introducing light beer drinkers to the joys of hops is getting them past the extremely floral aroma Big Muddy Pale Ale does this nicely with a very light hop aroma enough to let you know it’s there without being overwhelming. This beer has a nice malty flavor with a balancing part played by the piney, citrusy flavors of what appears to be a cascade type hop. This beer is not over the top and leaves the palate clean and ready for another drink.
Big Muddy Pale Ale can be looked at two different ways. It can be thought of as a refreshing break as, even in the pale ale category, beers get bigger, hoppier, maltier, and overly imposing or as an inviting beer introducing drinkers to the joys of hops without assaulting the taste buds or being heavy and thicker. Either way Big Muddy Pale Ale is an enjoyable beer that is light, refreshing and flavorful.
