After almost six months of waiting, the Super Bowl has arrived! It is no secret that many Fort Smith residents are ready to watch the San Francisco 49ers take on the Baltimore Ravens for the most coveted title in the NFL: Super Bowl Champions.
The Super Bowl is not one of those games that people just sit down in front of a television set to watch with a bag of potato chips and a six pack of whatever. The Super Bowl is an event! People who live in the River Valley know this. That is why many of them will trot down to their favorite sports bar in order to watch the game. While this sounds like a good play for those that live in Fort Smith, there are many others who live in one of the surrounding towns that border Arkansas' second largest city which do not have a sports bars to go to.
Big Jake's Cattle Company in Van Buren is throwing down the gauntlet by hosting their own Super Bowl event replete with prizes, trivia and most of all free food! So what is Big Jake's planning for Super Bowl Sunday? The restaurant will be having Super Bowl Trivia where customers can answer questions about past Super Bowls and win t-shirts. Big Jake's will also offer free snacks for the game at the Cattle Drive. Snacks will consist of peanuts and pretzels, typical bar food snacks. While many may not see this as a grand affair, it is not meant to be. “Most people have already made their plans [for the Super Bowl]. This is just for those who want to come in and watch the game” said Daeva, the manager at Big Jake's. Regardless of the size, Big Jake's is still taking the time out to offer people the chance to enjoy the Super Bowl in a festive environment. Anyone who has not made plans yet or just doesn't want to drive into Fort Smith ought to come to Big Jake's for a super night on Super Bowl Sunday.
