HERMON---- The Hermon Hawks scored seven runs in the fifth inning and cruised to a 10-3 victory over the Foxcroft Ponies in a class B baseball game played on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hawks took a lead when Nick Guerrette hit a sacrifice fly to score Tyler Thayer during the bottom of the first inning. Thayer reached base three times, scored two runs, and stole two bases from the leadoff spot.

Talon Strout led off the Ponies half of the second inning with a walk. Strout came around to score on a Nick Decker single.

Hermon scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a lead they would not give back. Jeremy Beaulieu and Quentin Wood had the big hits during the inning.

Thayer started the bottom of the fifth inning with a single. That was just the start of the fun for the Hawks. Beaton Tyler and Ben Wheeler each hit a run scoring double. Gresley Leighton hit a single that scored Wheeler. Wood hit a single that scored two runs.

Wheeler finished with three RBI for the Hawks. Guerrette allowed only one run on two hits and five walks in five innings on the mound to earn the victory. Hermon (5-1) has won four straight games since splitting a season opening doubleheader against Presque Isle.

Decker and Clay Carroll recorded two hits each for the Ponies. Decker took the pitching loss. Foxcroft (3-3) will finish the week with a home game against Ellsworth.
