Big government is bad government

If the founding fathers of the United States were alive today, almost all of them would be Libertarians.

Libertarians believe that big government is bad government. Why?

1) Bureaucrats consistently prove Lord Acton’s maxim: “Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” People who have had to deal with bureaucrats know bureaucrats like to throw their weight around.

2) Big government gives politicians something to sell and always leads to political corruption. What politicians sell is protection. A great example of the government selling protection is “Prohibition”. John D. Rockefeller, the founder of the Standard Oil Company, said “Competition is a sin.” John D. Rockefeller was one of the biggest proponents of “Prohibition”. Why?

Henry Ford made his first automobile so they ran on either alcohol or gasoline. “Prohibition” made it illegal to produce alcohol for any reason.

3) Big government wastes large amounts of money and produces nothing that adds to a nation’s gross domestic product. Even agencies that should benefit the public offer little or no benefit. For example, the Department of Education has done nothing to improve education and the Department of Energy has not kept down the price of energy or produced any energy.

If the money wasted by government were left in the private sector, the gross domestic product would grow exponentially and everyone in this country would be richer as a result.

4) Imagine a situation where a person could go out and earn as much money as that person wanted to earn. The restrictions of big government make that kind of situation impossible.

The problems created by big government are almost endless. In fact, virtually every problem faced by the United States is due to big government and the Federal Reserve System. The federal government put the fed in place.
