Fresno’s fun fall activities begin at 9:30 a.m. today with the annual Big Fresno Fair, which will run through October 18. In addition to the traditional animal exhibits, corndogs, more than 500 farm products, and stomach-churning rides, this year’s fair promises upgrades and more affordable family fun. Be sure to check out the promotions that are being offered to save you money.
This first day of the fair is Eye Q Seniors Day, sponsored by Humana. Fairgoers aged 62 and “better” will enjoy free admission to the fair. Special fun activities and contests will be featured for senior participants. There will also be several organizations offering free information to the public about services available for seniors, as well as general information of interest to seniors.
A new, free attraction is The Water Tree, which runs on solar power and is sponsored by PG&E. Teachers who bring their students will find this to be a teachable exhibit. There will also be an entertaining AG Magic Show that teaches about farmers in America.
Other new attractions are the Cow Palace and Chicken Charlie’s Deep Fried Zucchinis—“zucchini weenies.” Mutton Bustin’ promises to be a thrilling extreme sport for the six and under adventurers. Children will “get to” ride sheep for six seconds. The event is being billed as the “toughest sport on wool.”
Whether you plan to visit the fair today or another day, you will find it very convenient to print the daily schedule from the fair website. You will also find information regarding local hotels and restaurants. If you live at the north end of town or in Clovis, you may find it more convenient to park and ride for free. Click here for more information. There are also several parking lots adjacent to or very near the fairgrounds (fee varies).
If you are interested in being present at the birthing of a calf, lamb, or other animal, be sure to peruse the scheduled events for those projected opportunities. A list of the acts scheduled to perform in the Paul Paul theatre and admission for each can be found here.
Great weather, great food, great entertainment, great value. . . . Gather your great friends and family and celebrate our wonderful San Joaquin Valley at the Big Fresno Fair!
