The Big East regular season has three games left, and the final stretch of competition will be very competitive. Six teams already have double digit wins with Georgetown leading the way at (12-3). The Hoyas are followed by Louisville and Marquette with (11-4). Notre Dame and Syracuse are both two games back at (10-5).
After Saturday, the top of the Big East standings can get even more muddled. Four out of the top five teams are playing each other. There’s a chance that the Big East could have a four way tie for second place when the day is over.
Louisville vs Syracuse
Louisville visits Syracuse at the Carrier Dome at noon. The Orange is trying to get back on track after losing two straight games. Louisville has been on a roll as of late. They’ve won seven out of their last eight games in blowout fashion. The lone loss was the five overtime thriller against Notre Dame. They blew a big lead in the final minute of that game as well.
Notre Dame vs Marquette
Notre Dame has won two games in a row and they are looking to make a run for a top four finish in the Big East. For that to happen, they’ll likely need to win on the road at Marquette. The Golden Eagles are still in strong contention for the regular season title. Still, Marquette will have to win out for a chance at the number one seed.
Connecticut vs Cincinnati
Right now the Bearcats are solidly in the field, but they still have work to do on the court. Cincinnati is under .500 in the Big East, and they will need to win two more games just to maintain that status. They have lost three straight games. Cincinnati’s last win was before Valentines Day. Although, Connecticut doesn’t have any post season aspirations, they’ll be prepared to damage Cincinnati’s hopes.
St. Johns vs Providence
The Red Storm need two more wins to reach 10 in the Big East. A win at Providence is a must win for St John’s to keep their at large hopes alive. If they were to win out, St Johns would have a strong case for making the field of 68.
Rutgers vs Georgetown
The Hoyas dodged a bullet against UConn this week, when they survived in double overtime. Georgetown should handle Rutgers at home. A win should secure a top three seed for the Hoyas. Georgetown is currently on a 10 game winning streak in the Big East.
