Fire Chief, Randall Pavilak appointed and welcomed Chad Beekman and Robert Symes to the department as part-time firefighter/EMT employees during the last Township Trustees meeting, August 19, 2013. The chief also accepted, with regret, the resignations of Erik Sonntag, Mary Taylor, Christopher Caudill and John Long. He was also proud to announce the appointment of Gary Branstetter to the governor’s Waterways Safety Council.
Robert Symes was unable attend the meeting, but Chad Beekman and his family were present to acknowledge Chad’s success. Beekman’s service as a part-time firefighter/EMT employee began August 19, 2013 as part of the Safer Grant of 2008. Beekman is a Sinclair graduate and with his families support, he is excited to get started.
“Welcome and we are glad to have you. We are hopeful that this is a beginning to a fruitful relationship with all of us and we would like to see you stick around for awhile,” Sugarcreek Township Trustees Chairperson, Michael Pittman said during Monday night’s meeting.
Fire Chief Pavilak also announced that Gary Branstetter has been appointed by Governor Kasich to the Waterways Safety Council for a 5 year term beginning August 13, 2013. The Waterways Safety Council is a 5 person council that reviews waterway safety and educates boaters about water safety. “This is a great achievement for Gary. He is also very involved at Caesar’s Creek and just loves water. It’s nice to see that he has been recognized. This shows the quality of employees we have in the Township,” said Pavilak.
The township regrettably accepted the resignation of long standing employee, Mary Taylor after her 34- year service. Mary began her employment with the fire department in 1979 as a part-time administrative assistant. Taylor was later elected to the position of the Township Clerk from 1988 to 1993, while also volunteering as a firefighter/EMT from 1989-2005 before taking on her most recent position of a part-time administrative assistant in 2006. “She will be hard to replace,” said Sugarcreek Township Trustees Vice Chairperson, Scott Bryant.
The Township also approved the resignations of part-time Safer Firefighter/EMT employee, Erik Sonntag, since November 5, 2013 due to a military commitment; Firefighter/EMT employee, Christopher Caudill who began in March, 2013 due to family matters, and Volunteer Firefighter, John Long who began in 2009 and will be leaving due to increased travel and other obligations. Their service to the township has been greatly appreciated and they will be missed.
