Britney Haynes Godwin, who was a house guest on “Big Brother” in seasons 12 and 14, announced the terrible news this month that her two-month old baby girl, Tilly, had been diagnosed with cancer. On Sept. 27, 2013, Britney began blogging about the ordeal, simply calling her first entry on the “Together for Tilly” blog, “Gratitude.”

She begins by writing she has just now found the courage to put into words what has taken place – from the “surprising” news that Tilly had cancer, to how heartbroken and helpless she felt when she heard the diagnosis.

Britney writes, “I know that I had never truly been heartbroken in my life until that moment. I had never really felt helpless. I had never really known what it was like to cry. That was the first time that I learned what those things really felt like.”

She notes that Tilly began chemotherapy, had biopsy surgery, and then went through another round of chemo, which the infant withstood like a trooper.

Thankfully, Britney writes that currently there has “been good news since the diagnosis” and she finds “a thousand blessings in the situation” when she considers that Tilly is too young to remember the pain she has had to endure, the knowledgeable team of doctors treating her, and the awesome ability to bring awareness of childhood cancer to the masses.

Britney also gave thanks to the support she has been given through prayers and Twitter messages, which she writes, have “dramatically” lifted her spirits.

She notes that she never wanted to be “a mom who blogs about her daughter’s journey fighting cancer,” but this is the position she has been put in.

Britney also promises to keep updating her supporters on the blog with Tilly’s progress.

Donations to assist the family get through this difficult process can be made on Britney’s blog. In addition, the hashtag #TogetherForTilly is being used to share Tilly’s story and “share the love.”
