In a little more than 24 hours, the men of Bear Skn, Jody Koenig and Bjorn Ryan-Gorman, raised over $15,000, the initial goal of their Kickstarter campaign, in order to address the issue of ill-fitting underwear for us big boys. Not bad for something that, on the surface anyhow, seems quite nichey. Uncomfortable, unsupportive underwear that bunches, sags, rides up, and gets pinchy in places where no pinching should be happening, unless you’re into that sort of thing, is not at all that uncommon in the world of underwear, and the problem only gets worse if you happen to be bigger than average.

Ryan-Gorman, the CEO and Co-Founder of Bear Skn, just wanted to find comfortable underpants, but after spending thousands of dollars and countless hours, he was not able to find exactly what he was looking for. “I never thought that my quest for more comfortable underwear would lead to starting my own company.” Well, it did, and it looks like it is off to a solid start.

Bear Skn is on a mission to create right-sized skivvies for plus-sized guys, and their Kickstarter campaign is making it a reality. By choosing a four-way stretch cotton and elastane blend fabric, putting seams in places that make sense for bigger bodies, and adding a double layer of mesh in that place where the sun seldom shines in order to provide some much-needed ventilation.
“I wanted to see men that looked like me in the underwear I was about to buy,” said Co-Founder Jody Koenig. It’s pretty hard to miss that Bear Skn is the company making underwear for big boys and featuring those curvy fellows in their ads.

Bear Skn will start their collection with a trunk and a brief and they will be available exclusively online with direct sales to customers in order to keep prices competitive. Production starts Summer of 2014. For more information, click here or here.
