Bicycle Alliance receives WSPHA recognition for safe streets advocacy

Washington State Public Health Association (WSPHA) honored Bicycle Alliance of Washington as a public health champion. Betsy Skoda presented the award to Alliance Executive Director, Barb Chamberlain, on behalf of WSPHA. Headquartered in Seattle, the Bicycle Alliance works throughout the state with municipalities, school districts and public health advocates to enhance the safety of community streets and highways for bicycling. The Neighborhood Safe Streets Bill which has passed the Washington State House of Representatives is now poised for action in the Senate. Bicycle Alliance of Washington has led this legislation through its ever constant presence in Olympia.

Thursday evening, in spite of rain and traffic, Bicycle Alliance - staff, members, and guests - celebrated the 2013 Spring Fling. Since its relocation, Bicycle Alliance has used the First Thursday Art Walk as an opportunity to spotlight its Pioneer Square location. Sharing space in Seattle’s Nord Building, the Bicycle Alliance joined its neighbors Thursday for Pioneer Squares regular art walk event. Downstairs, Feet First, a Seattle non-profit advocating for walkable communities, held an art contest in their offices. Attendees were able to vote on the people’s choice award among ten entries depicting walking spaces around Seattle.
