Bicycle Alliance of Washington
Bicycle Advocacy doesn't just happen. Many people and organizations have promoted bicycling in the U.S. and around the world. In previous articles, I have mentioned the League of American Bicyclists and it's Bicycle-Friendly Cities designations. In Seattle we're fortunate to have advocacy organizations located locally. Bicycle Alliance of Washington is one of those. The Bicycle Alliance has continued an advocacy presence in Olympia for bicycling all over Washington which was initiated by the Bicycle Federation of Washington in 1982. The BFW merged with NOWBike (The Northwest Bicycle Federation) in 1994, and the name was officially changed in 1998.
This commitment to bicycling involves you. The legislative committee will soon meet to discuss legislative issues for the 2010 legislative year. You are encouraged to share your ideas for improving bicycling in Washington state with the Committee. Ideas must be sent Dave Janis by June 10.

Bike Parking
Bicycle Alliance now operates Bikestation in down town Seattle between S Jackson and S Main on Third Ave S. This facility with several fee options provides worthwhile benefits to Seattle bike commuters. Need repairs? There's an on-site bicycle mechanic and retail shop as well as access to a bike jig, basic tools, and even emergency supplies available via vending machine. This is in addition to those essentials: bike parking, restroom, and lockers. Bikestation is available 24/7. There are security cameras and tracked key card entry. Within a short distance of the Metro Transit tunnel, Waterfront, ferries, stadiums and both Sounder and Amtrak train depots, Bikestation provides a valuable commuter service.
If you haven't already, be sure to order your "Share the road" license plate. Part of these funds support bicycle advocacy and Bicycle Alliance. After purchase, send Bicycle Alliance information regarding your plate, and they're send you a receipt for your tax-deductible gift.
