A controversial biblical scholar plans on presenting his official theory that the Roman Empire invented Jesus as a form of “psychological warfare” in order to control their subjects. He also suggests the all of the bible’s New Testament was written by a group of Roman aristocrats.
Joseph Atwill wrote on his website, “Christianity may be considered a religion, but it was actually developed and used as a system of mind control to produce slaves that believed God decreed their slavery.” Atwill will make his presentation at the “Covert Messiah” conference in London on Oct. 19.
The American biblical scholar is the author of the book, “Caesar’s Messiah: The Roman Conspiracy to Invent Jesus.” He claims that Christianity was not a religion in the beginning.
Instead, Atwill insists that it was a propaganda exercise initiated by the Roman Empire in order to “pacify” its subjects. He goes on to say that the New Testament was actually written by Roman aristocrats in the first-century and that they fabricated the story of Jesus Christ.
According to Atwill’s theory, after trying all traditional methods of controlling the mounting number of Jews who awaited their “warrior Messiah” in Palestine, they made the decision to create the story of Jesus as part of their “psychological warfare.”
Speaking with PRWeb.com, Atwill said, “They [Romans] surmised that the way to stop the spread of zealous Jewish missionary activity was to create a competing belief system. That’s when the “peaceful” Messiah was invented.”
“Instead of inspiring warfare, this Messiah urged turn the other cheek pacifism and encouraged Jews to ‘give onto Caesar’ and pay their taxes to Rome. Although Christianity can be a comfort to some, it can also be very damaging and repressive.”
“An insidious form of mind control that has led to blind acceptance of serfdom, poverty, and war throughout history. To this day, especially in the United States, it is used to create support for war in the Middle East.”
Addressing the man Jesus himself, Atwill wrote, “In fact he [Jesus] may be the only fictional character in literature whose entire life story can be traced to other sources. Once those sources are all laid bare, there’s simply nothing left.”
Comparing the bible to the works of first century historian Josephus, Atwill said, “What seems to have eluded many scholars is that the sequence of events and locations of Jesus ministry are more or less the same as the sequence of events and locations of the military campaign of [Emperor] Titus Flavius as described by Josephus.”
“This is clear evidence of a deliberately constructed pattern. The biography of Jesus is actually constructed, tip to stern, on prior stories, but especially on the biography of a Roman Caesar.”
