CBN News is reporting that the husband and wife team of Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have signed with Paramount and MGM to remake 1959 epic film Ben-Hur.

The 1959 version swept the 1960 Academy Awards winning eleven Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director.

Based on Lewis Wallace's 1880 novel, Ben-Hur tells the story of a Jewish prince betrayed and sent into slavery. He regains his freedom and seeks revenge.

MGM CEO Gary Barber said in a statement, "We are thrilled to have Mark and Roma join the production team to bring such an indelible classic story to the big screen."

Burnett and Downey co-produced last year's miniseries The Bible which aired on The History Channel and became the best-selling miniseries DVD of all time. They later repackaged parts of that series into the film Son of God which was distributed for theatrical release by 20th Century-Fox.

The film is set to be released in February, 2016.
