Bible Prophecy and Four Blood Moons

Prophecy and Four Blood Moons

In his book, Four Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs, Mark Blitz expresses delight that he discovered occurrences of the four blood moons which NASA recorded would occur within the next 15 months. After doing a bit of research, he found that these alleged "signs" correspond to events which he believes harmonizes with the biblical calendar for Jewish Festivals. After checking NASA's website, he discovered these four blood moons had occurred in a row called a tetrad.

To his amazement, a previous lunar and solar tetrad occurred in 1948, a date Christian Zionists call the "Super Sign of the End". That was the year Zionists began a campaign of land theft, ethnic cleansing and now apartheid in the Palestinians’ homeland. He calls this the establishing of Israel as a nation. The second occurrence he sites is 1967 when Israel illegally confiscated land during war violating the Geneva Conventions. In other words, Mark Blitz, as he puts it, started doing a "hallelujah dance".

One wonders if that dance continues amidst the phosphorous bombs dropped on the Palestinians during the night, or while their homes and orchards are bull-dozed during the day?

A Cup of Cold Water

And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward." (Matt. 10:42)

Palestinians are rationed water, where those in the West Bank are restricted to about 20% of the available water supply. Some Palestinians are Christians. Where is the love of God in denying your brother a drink of water?

But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?" (1 Jn. 3:17) What kind of heart does it take for a Christian Zionist to dance at the destruction of Christian Churches in Palestine? There has to be something terrible wrong about a doctrine that causes people to dance at the mass genocide of fellow human beings.

Love Your Enemy

"What had the defenseless Palestinians done to deserve such evil and mockery from Christian Zionists and their churches? Was it the crime of being kind to an invading foreigner who came not to bring peace but a sword with Plan Dalet?

"These operations can be carried out in the following manner: either by destroying villages (by setting fire to them, by blowing them up, and by planting mines in their debris) and especially of those population centers which are difficult to control continuously; or by mounting combing and control operations according to the following guidelines: encirclement of the villages, conducting a search inside them. In case of resistance, the armed forces must be wiped out and the population expelled outside the borders of the state:"
Plan Dalet, 10 March, 1948, quoted in Ilan Pappe, The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine" p. 39.

Therefore, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head. (Rom. 13:20).

Did not Jesus teach, "'Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you?'" (Matt. 5:44)

"Why can't Christian Zionists take a message from the Torah they have replaced the New Testament with in order to defend un-Christian acts of evil against the Palestinian people?” You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord." (Lev. 19:18). Jesus said this is the second greatest commandment, Matt. 22:39. Paul said, it means to do no harm to a neighbor, Rom. 13:8. May we recommend a refresher course to Christian Zionists on "Who Is My Neighbor?" from Luke 10? Where are the Good Samaritans in Christian Zionism toward Palestinians?

Feast Days and Signs in the Heavens

Blitz seeks to "sell" his four blood moons hypothesis by claiming they are aligned with Jewish Festivals in our generation. He does an excellent job of teaching about the Festivals and their significance in general.

Further, he, like so many Christians are aware that the events of the New Testament are centered around the Jewish Feast Days.
Jesus' crucifixion occurred at the time of Passover. He is buried during the days of unleavened bread (the second of the Spring Feasts) and resurrected as the "firstfruits, literally the first of the firstfruits, representing the barley harvest, (Ex. 23:19; Lev. 23:10). This equaled the 3rd of the Spring Festivals.

During Jesus' crucifixion signs were shown in the heavens and on earth. "Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land." (Matt. 27:46). Immediately after breathing his last, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split and the graves were opened..."(v. 51-52).

Christ Is Our Passover

"Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us." (1 Cor.5:7) Jewish festivals are shadows of Christ, the true substance to which all the Jewish Feast Days pointed, (Col. 2:16-17).

Pentecost, A Feast Day of Firstfruits

Acts 2 records the outpouring of the Spirit, the preaching of the gospel and the harvesting of souls. This event is the time of the wheat harvest where a second portion of firstfruits were harvested. It occurred 50 (Pente) days following the Passover of Jesus' death. It is the forth of the Spring Jewish Festivals.

These are "end times" festivals. Jesus' death signified that the end times resurrection had begun. His death and resurrection was the beginning and pledge of the final harvest. The eschatological death of Christ corresponds in kind to the death from those on Pentecost experienced, i.e. resurrection from sin death (Eph. 2:1).

Why go to NASA, when we can find the "end times" festivals in the New Testament? There were also signs associated with this day. Peter quotes Joel's prophecy to explain the coming of the Spirit and speaking in tongues.

The Fall Feasts

Blitz says, "Just as the spring feasts were dress rehearsals for Messiah's first coming; the fall feasts are the dress rehearsals for His second coming! He adds, "And just as the spring feasts were all fulfilled in the spring to the very day of the biblical calendar, so the fall feasts will be fulfilled in the fall to the very day on the biblical calendar". Mark Blitz, Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs.

Since the spring feasts were all fulfilled in the first century involved Jesus' death, resurrection and the saints on Pentecost, why does Blitz and Christian Zionist leap over several millennia for the "imminent" harvest to occur? The fields were already white for harvest in the days of Christ, (Jn. 4:35).

How is almost 2000 years later imminent? It is not. We must look within the same time frame, i.e. the same generation from which the firstfruits are taken to find the remaining harvest. That would be the equivalent of saying, we must harvest from the same tree from which the firstfruits are taken, i.e. within the same growing season. The failure of Christian Zionism to remain in harmony with the Feast Days is the chronological error of their end times program.

Save Yourselves from This Perverse Generation, Acts 2:40

Peter warned the Jews on Pentecost about an imminent harvest which was about to take place in their generation. James said they were already waiting for the “early and latter rain” (the last or late season rains) before harvesting the precious fruit. He said the coming of the Lord had drawn near and the Judge was standing at the door, (Jas 5:7-9).

In other words, the Apostles saw the remaining Feast days of the Jewish Festive calendar as coming in their lifetime. Mark's book is subtitled Decoding the "Imminent" Signs. Yet he postpones the harvest (final feast days) for almost two millennia! Why were the signs not "imminent" to the first century generation saints in which the harvest began?

Blitz says he is not setting dates and has no idea what year the fulfillment would happen. Yet, he writes above that just as the Spring festivals were to be fulfilled at to the "very day" Jewish Festal calendar, so were the fall festivals to be fulfilled to the very day! If he knows the very days of the Spring and Festal calendars, how can he not be setting dates? Isn't that a direct contradiction? The harvest of the vines and trees (grapes and oil) occur in the Fall Feasts, Hos. 2:22.

They all occurred in the 7th Month (Tishri). The Feast of Trumpets occurred on the 1st of the 7th month, the Day of Atonement on the 10th, and the Feast of Tabernacles on the 15th Day of that same month. (Lev. 23:24, 27, 34) Just as surely as the Spring festival dates were known, so were the Fall festival dates. Blitz is simply seeking to hide behind the failure of his prophetic theory and date setting to happen as he so confidently affirms in his 4 blood moon reasoning.

Blitz wants to save his face from the egg that will be splattered all over it when nothing happens about a year from now. So look for the second coming and end of the world by September to October of next year and when it does not occur remember Moses' words in Deut. 18:19-22 about a false prophet.

Feast of Trumpets

The feast of trumpets marks the time of Jesus' coming in consummation of the age, (Matt. 24:4, 30-34). This feast is marked by a series of short intermittent blasts but ends with one long blast called the "last trumpet". Jesus spoke of the Feast of Trumpets in Matthew 24:31.

It occurred in connection with the destruction of the temple in A.D. 70. He said, "Assuredly, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place”. That means the Feast of trumpets would occur within the same generation that heard Jesus on the Mt. of Olives and which is precisely the same generation (Acts 2:40) who heard Peter on Pentecost. That is imminent.

The Book of Revelation records the "time had drawn near" for the prophetic events contained within to "shortly come to pass". (Rev. 1:1, 3, 22:6, 7, 10). These events were so near, the angel commanded the Apostle John "do not seal the book" because the time was at hand and Christ was coming quickly. Revelation is addressed to same "first century" saints to whom Peter addressed his epistles (1 Pet. 1:1; Rev. 1:11), i.e. to the Diaspora in Asia Minor.

The last trumpet sounds (Rev. 11:15-18). The city marked for destruction was the "great city" where also the Lord was crucified, (Rev. 11:8). That is the ancient city of Jerusalem. Jesus was not crucified in Rome, Iraq nor America. It is the destruction of the same temple (11:2) of which Jesus spoke in Matt. 24:1-3 and Lk. 21:20-22.

At the time of Jerusalem's destruction, Jesus said men would run to the caves and rocks and cry out “Fall on us,” Lk. 23:28-30. John records the fulfillment in Rev 6:12-17, where he also describes the moon turning into blood. This fulfills the Feast of Trumpets.

Day of Atonement and End of the Age

Hebrews 9 speaks of the atonement work of Christ as our High Priest. He died in the end of the age, to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself, (Heb. 9:26). The question we must ask is ‘in what age did Jesus die?’ The answer will settle the question of imminence and clearly define where the end times festivals belong.

Jesus did not die in the end of the Christian age. There were no Christians before Pentecost. There were no Christians before his death. The only age in which Jesus could have died is the age in which he was born and lived. That was the Jewish age, (Gal. 4:4). Therefore, his death occurred in the end of the Jewish age.

In what age therefore were the Jewish festivals to be fulfilled? In the end of the Jewish age, which occurred in 70 A.D. That is the consummation of the age. That is the Day of Atonement when Jesus appeared a second time to those who looked for him. That day was so near they could "see it approaching" (Heb. 10:25). Jesus' presence was so near, it was coming in a very, very little while, (Heb. 10:37)

Feast of Tabernacles

Paul wrote to the Hebrews Christians saying they had already come to Mt Zion and to the "festive gathering", alluding directly to the Feast of Tabernacles (Heb. 12:22-24). As first century Christians, they were the firstfruits to God, (Jas. 1:18). They are mentioned in Revelation as standing on Mt. Zion with the Christ. In chapter 7, they are shown to have come through the "great tribulation" (7:14; Matt. 24:21) and stand before the throne with palm branches in their hands in celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles, (Rev. 7:9-13-15; Lev. 23:40).

Blitz not only has assigned irrelevant astronomical signs to unrelated events, he also totally ignores the events in the New Testament in which each of these Festivals are fulfilled by assigning them to an age (1) which has no end. (Lk. 1:32-33, Eph. 3:21) and (2) in which the shadows and types of the law have been fulfilled in Christ., (Col. 2;17; Heb. 10:1). Christian churches have been duped through very devious campaigns which occurred before they even knew what was going on to buy into dangerous neo colonialists war and death paradigms of Christian Zionism.

The Presbyterian Church published an excellent educational booklet and DVD entitled, "Zionism Unsettled, A Congregational Study Guide" that seeks to teach and inform Christians of the 1948 Nakba where untold numbers of Palestinians were murdered leaving families (over 700,000) to flee via for their lives with only what many could carry on their backs in a reenactment of the Trail of Tears. The Third Set of 4 Blood Moons in the Last 600 Years

Is anyone paying attention to these claims? Blitz and John Hagee and other Christian Zionists admit this is the third series of four blood moons which occurred in the last 600 years. Why did the end not occur during either of these previous tetrads? Yet in the most recent occurrence, Hagee predicts the Battle of Gog and Magog will occur in connection with the last of these four moons? Why is this "tetrad" imminent when none of the previous three were?

By the way, the Battle of Gog and Magog was also an end time event occurred "after" the millennium of 1000 years and the release of Satan from the bottomless pit. Hagee therefore by this argument make the admission that the great tribulation, the 1000 years reign, the pre-tribulation rapture and the end of the millennium have already occurred only to await the Battle of Gog and Magog sometime between now and next year to wind up their end times program. Therefore, he is date setting also. The fallacy of his reasoning should be apparent.

Each of these men quotes Joel's prophecy as the text of reference.

"And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon in to blood before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord." (Joel 2:30-31)

Peter Says This Is That!

What we have is a failure to communicate. How is it that an inspired Apostle, who had just received "signs from heaven” (Acts 2:1-4), and who corrected his audience who thought they were drunk? Peter said they were not drunk seeing it was 9a.m. in the morning.

He then methodically explained that the signs which they both "saw and heard" in broad daylight was the evidence that the prophecy of Joel was being fulfilled in their day. "This is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel!

Surely, we can anticipate a rebuttal from both Blitz and Hagee who would say, that was the beginning of the end times event. Fair enough. But, let's examine that reasoning for a minute. Does it make any sense to give the people who lived in the time of Peter, i.e. in the first century, a sign for an event which would not occur until 15 months down the road in the year 2015? How is that a sign to them?

In like manner, would the two Four Blood Moon prophecy teachers expect us to believe that the April 15th eclipse is a sign of something that will occur 15 months after April 4014? It makes about as much sense. Perhaps they are unaware of how illogical their conclusions are.

Peter does not mislead his audience. He clearly exhorts them to save themselves from "this perverse generation". That cannot mean a generation almost 2000 years away. A generation is a period of about 40 years, Heb. 3:9, 10. They don't need saving from "our generation". They're not here. They needed saving from the wrath which was about to come in their generation and of which John, the Immerser said the axe was already laid to the root of the trees and the winnowing fork was in hand. (Matt. 3:10-11) That's imminent, not 2000 years away.

Joel's Prophecy in Matthew 24:29

Matthew 24:29 quotes Joel saying the sun would darkened immediately after the great tribulation. Thus, we should be in a blackout now according to Hagee! The problem is Jesus taught, as Matthew records, that the event would come to pass before that generation passed away, 24:34. Mark (Blitz) then quotes the Talmud, a document written almost two thousand years away and says a total eclipse was a bad omen for a nation. True, Joel's prophecy was a bad omen for Jerusalem which was about to be destroyed by the Roman armies which came to pass in 70 A.D.

Further, note that Matthew says the blood moon would come "immediately” after the [great] tribulation of those days. Where is the great tribulation? Did it occur in the last seven years? Was it the last 3.5 years? Will it occur in the next 15 months? Isn't it a bit late since the first of the four "signs" has already occurred?

Christian Zionists view of prophecy creates an impossibility in the Bible's end time program. They must remove the word "immediately" along with the "great tribulation" from the first century generation to fulfill their speculative theory of Bible's end times prophecy.
