A few days ago, while doing Bible study, my Bible, the New International Version, fell apart from Daniel Chapter 6 through the glossary. For me, this was the easiest of the three Bibles owned used every day.
My mother suggested, along with my other church friends, in buying another. It was considered at one point because of my curiosity over cost and a lot of prayer. Mardel’s Bibles ran at least $54-$139 depending on the size and cover. The on line website ChristianBook.com had them cheaper, but for me a newbie, repairs were better, since the price for a new Bible was about the same, even with shipping. My friend gave me this Bible Christmas 1987 after telling her that the King James version received two years before upon graduation from high school was hard to understand, having both Greek and Hebrew in the bigger study Bible.
To me, any time one received or bought a Bible, it was considered an investment, an eternal investment. The words in the Holy Bible were the word of God. Memorizing its scripture would have taken one a lot further than any other book one memorized. If it was in the mind, it was stored in the heart. One just didn’t store that book in the closet or throw it out because it got a little worn. All kinds of family records would still be found on the front of the Bible.
The local Mardel Book Store gave me two book binding companies, one was located in Edmond, Oklahoma, and the other was in Greenwood, Mississippi. This eliminated how my Bible was to be fixed. The book bindery in Oklahoma did a lot of business with the local Mardel Book Store in Wichita Falls. My study Bible was purchased there three years ago and the people were professional,. Their advice top notch so trusting them was simple. Choosing the one in Oklahoma was easier on the wallet, for shipping purposes. Also, the way they presented themselves was better along with the track record with Mardel. There were a few others in Texas, but the one in Waco, Texas didn’t have a web site and was not recommended. The price to sew my binding rather than reglue it, was about $52 plus shipping. The cover was still in very good shape. Before a price was even quoted with the Mississippi Company, a complete order form had to accompany the Bible before a quote was given. Their prices started at $50, depending on the size of the Bible.
It looked like my study Bible would get a daily workout like the other did when doing Daniel: Dare To Be God’s Messenger on line with Precepts For Life. Both were a good investment. Psalm 119:104 said, ”Through thy precepts I gain understanding. I hate every false way.”
