Bible and DOMA Unconstitutional

Marriage Equality is a Constitutional Right
Marriage Equality is a Constitutional Right

America is alleged to be a country in which every citizen is afforded equal rights, and over the past few decades there has been some progress in ensuring that every American has the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Religious fanatics and Republicans have never subscribed to Jefferson’s well-known phrase in the Declaration of Independence, and they are relentless in denying civil rights to Americans who are not white Christians. Over the past four years, besides attacking women’s rights, their primary goal of treating gays like animals has increased significantly in their campaign to prevent same-sex couples from marrying the person they love. From California’s harsh Proposition 8 to the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), Republicans have imposed the Christian bible’s edicts on Americans and once again, a federal judge has deemed DOMA unconstitutional for violating the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause.

The latest federal U.S. District Court Judge to rule that DOMA is unconstitutional found DOMA limits same-sex couples and domestic partners from fully participating in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CALPERS). It was the first time since President Obama endorsed same-sex marriage that a federal court found DOMA unconstitutional, but two other judges and a bankruptcy court have ruled the anti-gay law is unconstitutional.

Apparently, Republicans supporting DOMA believe the Christian bible supersedes the U.S. Constitution in their drive to transform America into a theocracy. There is no basis to deny same-sex couples equal rights that does not originate in religious fanaticism, and their persistent claim that allowing gay couples to marry is an attack on traditional marriage is despicable and fallacious.

Republicans and their maniacal Christian extremists still labor under the false assumption that all Americans are bound by law to follow biblical edicts and hate-based dogmata, and they will pursue their theocratic agenda until every non-believer is purged from existence. The presumptive Republican presidential candidate, Willard Romney, has pledged his allegiance to National Organization for Marriage’s (NOM) commandment that if elected, he will appoint a presidential commission to investigate and regulate proponents of same-sex marriage. Now Willard is not a Christian, but his Mormon cult advocates for imposing theocratic law on all Americans by punishing gays for wanting to exercise the same civil rights religious fanatics enjoy.

Religious extremists assert that imposing the bible’s hate-inspired edicts on all Americans is a matter of their religious liberty, but the truth is their religious liberty entails transforming government into a theocracy and the NOM pledge is little more than a 21st Century Crusade and Inquisition.

The extremist Christians, Mormons, Romney, and Republicans are guilty of rejecting the Constitution’s guarantee of equal rights that designates them enemies of liberty. America is not a theocracy and regardless Dominionists beliefs, the bible is not the Constitution. Republicans who have sworn to uphold the Constitution at the same time they work to destroy it must be impeached as enemies of the state and religious organizations politicizing from the pulpit must lose their 501c non-profit tax exemption for breaking their agreement with the government and Internal Revenue Service. Conversely, the judges who upheld the Constitution, although only doing their job, should be commended for following the 1st Amendment’s separation of church and state clause.

Same-sex marriage is a civil right, and Republicans, religious fanatics, and bigots cannot be allowed to impose their vile beliefs on the rest of the country. Americans are not bound to follow bible dogmata any more than religious freaks are bound to worship Satan, but until freedom-loving citizens demand equal rights for all Americans, and not just religious extremists and bigots, this country is in jeopardy of becoming a theocracy like Iran or Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. However, that is the goal of Republicans, Mormons, evangelical maniacs, Willard Romney, and their anti-gay, un-American cohort who cannot wait to transform America into a theocracy with legal cover for bible bigots to crucify gays for the crime of wanting to marry the person they love.
