Bi Lines has been the biggest bi culture event of the year in New York City for several years running and this fifth annual program, coming up on Sunday June 3rd and kicking off LGBT Pride Month, is expected to be the best so far.
In addition to readings from some of the best bi-themed books of 2011 and 2012, there will be live theater, live music and an art slideshow from a graphic novel--all organized by the Bi Writers Association.
The readings will range from Native American poetry (Sovereign Erotics, Qwo-Li Driskill) to bi Sci Fi about a bisexual alien and his two earth lovers (Triptych, J.M. Frey), to the latest in bi queer theory (Bisexuality and Queer Theory: Intersections, Connections and Challenges, Serena Anderlini-D'Onofrio) to a novel based on acclaimed bisexual artist Tamara de Lempicka and the fictional? story of her secret affair with her most celebrated model (The Last Nude, Ellis Avery) and more.
Ilike Merey will project a slideshow of art panels from her popular graphic novel a + e 4ever, while performing her reading.
Celebrated author James Earl Hardy (B-Boy Blues) will be on hand to introduce an excerpt from his daring play about bisexual blatino porn star and mogul Tiger Tyson, Confessions of a Homo Thug Porn Star, with Johnathan Cedano starring as Tyson.
Live music by singer/songwriter/musicians Viva and Rorie Kelly are expected to make the audience dance in their seats.
As founder of the Bi Writers Association, I will be hosting this event so feel free to come up and say hello after the show, I love meeting my readers.
Bi Lines will be in a great new venue this year: Nuyorican Poets Cafe, which is set up like a cabaret, has a full bar. and is co-sponsoring the event. Nuyorican's bisexual co-founder, Miguel Pinero was a celebrated poet and playwright whose life was revealed in the film Pinero, starring Benjamin Bratt, as well as the play Pinero Resurected.
Audience members will be invited to the soul food after-party for the performers, adding a social aspect to the evening.
In the past Bi Lines was always in May, because it piggybacks on the Lambda Literary Awards, but they pushed the awards to June this year, so Bi Lines has now become a Pride Month event, as well as the biggest bi culture event of the year.
