Beyonce is the Queen of the World! The singer surprised fans by secretly releasing her album on iTunes. According to Billboard, the Beyoncé' self-titled album broke the million sales mark on December 18th and was number #1 in 104 countries. The album is expected to top the charts for a second week with the arrival of the physical disc in stores with 340,000 albums sold before Christmas.
Examiner was invited to a private director viewing with Beyonce on Saturday. Queen Bey was candid as she greeted 500 fans and spoke about her fears with releasing the visual album without promotion.
"The amount of personal growth that I experienced during this project is unlike anything else I’ve ever done,” she told the crowd at the Theater of the School of Visual Arts. “I took all my insecurities, all my doubts and fears and everything I’ve learned—and motherhood and how it changes your perspective on life—I took all those things and I put them into this record. I’ve very proud of it. But more than the music, I’m proud of myself for taking a risk.”
We were stunned by how amazing Beyonce looked in her black Mosaic Tom Ford mini dress with thigh high boots. "The biggest message for me,” Beyonce said, “is owning your imperfections and all the things that make you interesting, because I refuse to allow anyone to put me in a box.”
"I was terrified. I was so scared. I already envisioned like the worst things that could happen. I was really nervous because this was a huge risk. We went through a lot of things to keep it secret, to keep the surprise. I really, really wanted to surprise people, and for them really just to hear the art and not be about the hype and the promotion. And we actually did it."
Beyonce finished her "Mrs. Carter" tour with a final performance at the Barclay Center on Sunday. The singer also had a noteworthy encounter with Madonna's daughter Mercy James on Friday night. Madonna shared a photo of Mercy receiving a kiss from Beyonce on her Instagram. "Mercy James gets a big fat one from the Queen. B !" Madonna posted. "Mrs. Carter crushes the BK with her bad ass show! Girls run the world!"
Beyonce celebrated the success of her visual album with a special party in Dave & Busters in Times Square. Bey arrived wearing a leopard shirt and thigh high boots.
